Electrical Connectability: Copper versus Aluminum

Teacher Vern Buchholz, Hans De Keulenaer

Description

Electrical connections are a necessary part of all wiring systems. If not properly selected and installed connectors can be the weakest point in a wiring system. The webinar will provide a review of contact theory. Two electrical tests comparing common types of copper and aluminum alloy connectors will be discussed, Including procedures, methodology, results and conclusions. The first test uses salt fog and heat cycling, combined with electric current bursts. The second test investigates conductor wire-brushing, application of contact lubricant, and bolt torque on mechanical connectors.
