Substitution of lead by laminated copper coverings in cables

Teacher Wim Boone, Hans De Keulenaer

Description

Lead used to be a popular material to protect the cable against water ingress and to provide a number of vital electrical functions. However lead is heavy, expensive and last but not least is becoming increasingly controversial for environmental reasons. In this presentation attention will be paid to alternatives for the conventional lead sheath: the so called laminated coverings aluminium and copper laminates and their mutual pros and cons.
